Cruise Age Requirements

Below is an overview of general age requirements when cruising. Be it booking a cruise or buying adult beverages on board, we have all the details available for your convenience.

Age Requirements and Policies for Families with Children on Cruises
 

Traveling with Children:
Most cruise lines are child-friendly and welcome families. However, there are specific restrictions for infants and pregnant women (click here for more details). If families are booking multiple cabins, there may be age requirements for children staying in a separate cabin. Your CruiseHub Cruise Expert can provide more details for specific cruises.
 

Minimum Age Requirements for Cabin Occupants:
All cruise lines mandate a minimum age for at least one person in each cabin. The minimum age can be as low as 18. This information is subject to change, so please confirm with your CruiseHub Cruise

Expert when booking.
 

Minimum Age 18 in Each Cabin:
Cunard, Explora Journeys, MSC Cruises (international departures), Oceania, P&O Cruises, Ponant, Quark Expeditions, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, SeaDream, Star Clippers, Virgin Voyages.
 

Minimum Age 18 or 21 in Each Cabin:
Disney Cruise Line, Silversea, Viking.
 

Minimum Age 21 in Each Cabin:
Azamara, Celebrity, Holland America, Hurtigruten, MSC Cruises (U.S. departures), Norwegian Cruise Line, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn Cruise Line.
 

Minimum Age 21 or 25 in Each Cabin:
Carnival, Costa, Windstar Cruises.

Exceptions may apply for married couples under the minimum age and for U.S. Military personnel on Carnival cruises. Age is determined by the date of sailing.

 

Alcohol Consumption Policies:
The minimum age for alcohol consumption varies:
 

Age 18 and Above:
P&O Cruises (all beverages), Cunard (except in U.S. waters), MSC Cruises and Costa (non-U.S. departures).
 

Age 21 and Above:
Azamara, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean (exceptions in Europe and South America), Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America, Hurtigruten, Norwegian, Oceania, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Ponant, Princess, Quark Expeditions, Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn Cruise Line, SeaDream, Silversea, Star Clippers, Viking, Windstar.

 

Gambling Onboard:
The minimum age for gambling varies by cruise line:
 

Age 18 and Above:
Carnival, Costa, Cunard, Holland America, Norwegian, Oceania, P&O, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, SeaDream.
 

Age 18 or 21 and Above:
Azamara, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean (21 and above for Alaska cruises).
 

Age 21 and Above:
MSC Cruises, Princess, Seabourn, Silversea, Windstar.
